How to make a bow

You need:

1 1/2 yards of wire-edged ribbon and sharp scissors

Before making your bow, tie your package with ribbon however you like....criss-cross, or just one wrap around the package.  You will tie your finished bow to this.

  1. From your piece of ribbon, cut a scrap piece that is roughly 5 inches long and roughly half an inch wide.
  2. Fold your ribbon over itself an odd number of times (usually 9 times for a nice big bow or 5-7 times for smaller bows).
  3. Take you folded ribbon and fold it in half.
  4. Cut both corners of the folded edge of the ribbon and open the ribbon back up.
  5. Take the scrap piece and tie a knot in the middle where the wedges were cut out.
  6. Take the middle fold from each side of the knot and pull it upward one at a time.
  7. Repeat step 6 until all the folds have been pulled out.
  8. Find your scrap piece and use it to tie the bow to the ribbon already on your package.
